She was reared by her mother and stepfather, Charlie Smith. She and Thomas E. Cotner were married July 2, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. He died July 8, 1992...

Mary E. Cotner, 71, 717 N. Sprigg, died Tuesday, March 28, 1995, at Ratliff Nursing Home.

She was born July 30, 1923, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Dewey and Verba Slinkard Austin. She was reared by her mother and stepfather, Charlie Smith. She and Thomas E. Cotner were married July 2, 1942, in Cape Girardeau. He died July 8, 1992.

Cotner was a 1940 graduate of Central High School. She was office manager for Dr. Joe Mosley 30 years, and then worked 10 years at Missouri Job Service. She was a member of Red Star Baptist Church, member and past worthy matron of Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a daughter, Sondra Cook of Littleton, Colo., and three grandchildren.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel from 4-8 p.m. today.

Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Red Star Church, with the Revs. Alan Berry and Cy Smith officiating. Burial will be in Lorimier Cemetery.
