RICHMOND, Ky. -- Mary Ethel Chostner Deck, 98, of Richmond and formerly of Glen Allen, Mo., died Thursday, June 3, 1999, at the Patti A. Clay Hospital at Richmond.
Deck was born Feb. 3, 1901, at Bessville, Mo., daughter of John H. and Sarilda Adeline Yount Chostner. She married Isaac Jacob Deck, June 18, 1922, at St. Louis. He died July 5, 1969.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Kirkwood, Mo., Victory Chapter of Eastern Star in Marble Hill, Mo., and had served as past Worthy Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a Delta Kappa Gamma honorary.
Deck taught school for 33 years, having taught in St. Charles, Mo., Delta, Colo., and Beaumont, Texas. She retired from the Webster Groves School System at St. Louis where she had taught for 22 years.
Survivors are a son, Dr. John M. Deck of Richmond; a sister, Lois Wright of St. Louis; and three grandchildren.
Three sisters also preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Liley Funeral Home in Marble Hill. Victory Chapter of Eastern Star will conduct an Eastern Star service at 6:30.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Glen Allen Baptist Church, with the Rev. Bill Jetton officiating. Burial will follow at the Glen Allen Cemetery.
