Mary Alice Chatham Bagot of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Sept. 25, 2022, at her home.
She was born Sept. 30, 1935, in Shreveport, Louisiana, the daughter of Robert C. and Thelma Brown Chatham.
She graduated from Centenary College with a Bachelor of Science in education.
She married Laurence E. "Larry" Bagot in Shreveport on Sept. 14, 1957. They were in partnership in the Bagot Drug Store in Oxford, Kansas, until his death in 1983. They were members of Oxford United Methodist Church in Oxford.
Mary received her Master of Arts in English in 1988, and moved to Cape Girardeau, where she taught English to international students in the Intensive English Program at Southeast Missouri State University. She retired in 2001.
She is survived by two sons, Robert E. (Ann) Bagot and James L. Bagot (Christina Gonzales); seven grandchildren, Mary Shearn, Elizabeth Bagot, Jacob Bagot, Rachel Bagot, Hannah Bagot, Brandon Gonzales and Derrington Gonzales; and seven great-grandchildren, Thomas, Cecilia, Henry, Joshua, Blaire, Elaine and Anya.
Mary's parents, Robert C. and Thelma Chatham, preceded her in death.
Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at 6 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jennifer Long officiating. Final committal will be at 1 p.m. Oct. 15 at Oxford Cemetery in Oxford.
