BLOOMFIELD -- Marvin Doyle Cates, 91, of Bloomfield died Tuesday, Oct. 4, 1994, at the Dexter Memorial Hospital.
He was born June 16, 1903, in Stoddard County, the son of Henry and Mertie Sitz Cates. On Feb. 26, 1926, he married Lela Opal Harris, who preceded him in death on Aug. 27, 1981.
He was a life-long resident of rural Bloomfield, where he was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of Lakeview Lodge #418 A.F. & A.M. at Bell City and a member of the Oak Ridge General Baptist Church.
Survivors include a son, Jim Cates of Dexter, a daughter, Ina Redman of Advance, and two granddaughters.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the Chiles-Cooper Funeral Home in Bloomfield, where funeral service will be at 3 p.m. Thursday. Jesse Lacey of Dexter will officiate, and burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery near Bell City.
