Marvin Keith Broadbent, 64, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Oct. 26, 2007, at Saint Francis Medical Center.

He was born March 2, 1943, in Ventura, Calif., son of Donald Louis and Geraldine Rheta Drew Broadbent. He and Darlene Kain were married March 14, 1988, in Cape Girardeau.

He attended schools in Ventura and Ojai, Calif., then enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard the USS Abnaki, a sea-going tug in Alaska, and was later stationed in Hawaii.

As a very young child, he was fascinated with trains and enjoyed family camping vacations, liked to tease and play practical jokes. He was a caring person, a hard worker.

He worked for Sam Tanksley Trucking as a terminal operations manager for years. He then was a longtime bus driver for Notre Dame High School sporting events and special occasions.

He was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of Cape Girardeau; his dog, Teddy Broadbent of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Beverly (Richard) Beall of Oakview, Calif.; mother-in-law, Joyce Kain of Cape Girardeau; a brother-in-law, David (Roxana) Kain of Jackson; a sister-in-law, Beverly Thompson of Alexander City, Ala.; a brother-in-law, Bob (Paula) Kain of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; cousins, Marian (Bob) DesRoches and Judy (Rodney) Mahaffey of state of Washington, David (Terri) Uhler of Illinois, Stephen (Rhonda) Uhler of Washington, John (Susan) Drew and Charles (Alice) McConnell.

He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Charles Kain; and longtime companion, Buster Broadbent, a dachshund.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Daniel Hackney and Brother David Migliorino officiating.

Entombment will be in Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum. Full military rites will be provided by Missouri Honors Team.
