Martha P. Minton, 62, of Jackson passed away peacefully Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Southeast Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 30, 1952, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Rethor and Alma Juanita Lacey Macke. She married Gary L. Minton in 1970 in Cape Girardeau. He passed away in 1998. Martha P. Minton, 62, of Jackson passed away peacefully Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Southeast Hospital, surrounded by her family.

She was born Aug. 30, 1952, in Cape Girardeau, daughter of Rethor and Alma Juanita Lacey Macke. She married Gary L. Minton in 1970 in Cape Girardeau. He passed away in 1998. Martha spent 18 years with the love of her life, Dean Drerup, who passed away April 12, 2014.

Martha retired from Manpower in 2012 after working there more than 20 years. She also previously was employed at the Show Me Center and Florsheim Shoe Co. She was an active member of the Cape Girardeau and Jackson chambers of commerce, CAPA (Cape Area Personnel Association) and VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include three children, Lori Bodenschatz (Roger) of Jefferson City, Missouri, Heather Minton (Bill Keesee) and Michael Minton of Jackson; four grandchildren, Austin and Logan Bodenschatz, Dillon Lang and Laney Minton; an adopted grandson, Zach Moore; three siblings, Elwanda Compas of Cape Girardeau, Wilma Hawkins of Metairie, Louisiana, and Richard Macke of Fredericktown, Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Betty Craft; and mother-in-law, Dorothy Minton.

Martha was loved by all who knew her. She had a very kind and generous heart and helped many people in need. She was an avid animal lover and rescued many animals over the years.

A celebration of life will be from 1 to 3 p.m. today at the VFW post in Cape Girardeau.

Ford and Sons Funeral Home-Jackson, formerly Cracraft-Miller, is in charge of arrangements.
