Martha Lou McGinty, 91, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Chateau Girardeau. Martha Lou was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Cape Girardeau. She was the proud daughter of Franklin P. and Martha Ellen Foster. A lifetime resident of Cape Girardeau, she met her loving husband, Charles Patterson McGinty, at Cape Girardeau's Franklin School while attending fourth grade...

Martha Lou McGinty, 91, of Cape Girardeau passed away Monday, Oct. 10, 2016, at Chateau Girardeau.

Martha Lou was born Aug. 20, 1925, in Cape Girardeau. She was the proud daughter of Franklin P. and Martha Ellen Foster.

A lifetime resident of Cape Girardeau, she met her loving husband, Charles Patterson McGinty, at Cape Girardeau's Franklin School while attending fourth grade.

Upon high-school graduation, she briefly attended Southeast Missouri State University. She and Charles were married Nov. 20, 1944, in Charleston, Missouri, with her sister, Margaret Roberts, as a witness.

After the wedding, they lived in St. Louis while Charles attended medical school. Upon completion of his degree, they returned to Cape Girardeau.

Her five children are Rebecca (Roger) Mocherman, Chuck (Laura) McGinty, Jane Courter, Frank (Bipi) McGinty and Margaret (Ted) Yates. Her 12 grandchildren are Betsy Richey (Greg Deimund), Charles (Crystal) Richey, Charles (Jessica) McGinty, Samuel (Katie) McGinty, Paul (Lynn) Courter, Franklin McGinty, Foster (Chelsea) McGinty, Allie (Brett) Israelson, Fletcher McGinty, Pierce Yates, Meg (Mike) Strom and Adeline Yates. Martha Lou also has 13 great-grandchildren.

Martha Lou enjoyed travel with Charles, home design, gardening and cooking. She created prize-winning arrangements from her gardens, and several of her recipes were published in Southern Living. She was a former member of Chapter GF P.E.O.

There will be no visitation. The family will have a private memorial ceremony.

Interment will be at Fairmount Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

Memorial contributions may be given to Southeast Hospice.
