CHARLESTON -- Marquis D. Cagle Jr., 75, of Columbia, died Tuesday, March 17, 1992, at Harry S Truman VA Hospital in Columbia.

He was born May 25, 1916, at Charleston, son of Marquis DeLafayette and Mary Elizabeth Gunter Cagle Sr. He and Virgie Shaw were married Oct. 16, 1941.

Cagle was a retired plumber, and had worked at McDonald Restaurants in Columbia the past 14 years. He was a member of the Church of Christ. Cagle served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Harry and Marquis Cagle III of Augusta, Kan., Earl and William Cagle of Columbia, Joseph Cagle of the home; a daughter, Linda Gordon of Wichita, Kan.; two sisters, Erma Brewer of Charleston, Mary Purdy of Sunnyside, Wash.; 20 grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister and two grandchildren.

Funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at McMikle Funeral Chapel here. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery near here.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Thursday.
