Marion Allen Markland, son of the late James Marion and Ella Lavetta Lane Markland, was born Dec. 23, 1938, in Dexter, Missouri, and departed his life Sunday, Jan. 8, 2023, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau at the age of 84 years.
He was a veteran of the United States Navy.
He loved spending time with his family and friends, watching the St. Louis Cardinals, and playing golf.
On Sept. 1, 1962, he married Karen Clettenberg in Chicago. She survives.
Apart from his wife, he is survived by one son, Michael Markland of Scott City; one daughter, Denise League of Holland, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Ken (Paige) Cunningham, Shelby League, Hailey League, Tyshawn Markland, Danielle Markland, Jacob League and Kate Kerley; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Apart from his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Dorothy, Mildred, Icy and Jeanie; three brothers, Floyd, Bud and Charlie; one granddaughter, Kristen; and one great-grandson, Brayden.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
Funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 11, at the funeral home, with Pastor Mike Shupert officiating. Burial will at Lightner Cemetery in Scott City, with full military honors.
