Mrs. Miles Edwards was born in Johnston City, Illinois, on Feb. 1, 1918, the daughter of Arthur and Laura Kelly Bell.

She was a graduate of Brown's Business College and attended Illinois College in Jacksonville. It was there she met her future husband, Dr. H. T. Miles. They were married June 17, 1939.

Dr. Miles was a Cape Girardeau chiropractor for many years until his death in 1998.

She married Dr. Troy Edwards of Carbondale, Illinois, on May 19, 2000. He died in 2006.

In 1937, Mrs. Miles Edwards was selected to represent her native Southern Illinois area in the Miss Illinois beauty pageant. She was a member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, Quest Club, MPWC, and Women's Golf Association at the Cape Girardeau Country Club.

Marion was secretary of the Heritage Ball committee for 10 years. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church, Susanna Wesley Circle, Historical Society, Cape Girardeau County Humane Society and Friends of the Public Library. She was one of the four originators of the "Sweet Adelines." She truly loved Cape Girardeau.

An avid golfer since 1951, she and Dr. Miles played the "Old Course" while visiting St. Andrews Scotland, which served as the springboard for the popular "Lassies Classic" golf tournament held each summer at the Cape Country Club. She was one of those instrumental in getting the tournament started in 1979.

Mrs. Edwards is survived by her close nephew and his wife, Mike (Beverly) Dillow of Jackson, and more then 20 other nieces and nephews; four sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; and the dearest friend anyone could hope for, Beth Mapes. Her parents, one sister and four brothers preceded her in death.

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Friday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home.

Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. David Conley officiating.

Private interment will be at Lake-view Cemetery next to her first husband in Johnston City.

A special thank you to the Lutheran Home ALE, 300 Unit and Hospice staff for their compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, Mrs. Edwards asked that donations be made to Centenary United Methodist Church or the Cape Girardeau County Humane Society.
