Marilyn Arlene Johnson, 81, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at home, with her loving family surrounding her. She was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Canton, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harvey and Ann Hedges. She and William Curtis were married in 1955. She later married Daryl E. Johnson on Oct. 17, 1969, in Springfield, Illinois. Marilyn Arlene Johnson, 81, of Cape Girardeau passed away Sunday, Jan. 21, 2018, at home, with her loving family surrounding her.

She was born Jan. 13, 1937, in Canton, Illinois. She was the daughter of Harvey and Ann Hedges. She and William Curtis were married in 1955. She later married Daryl E. Johnson on Oct. 17, 1969, in Springfield, Illinois. He preceded her in death Oct. 31, 2009.

Marilyn and Daryl moved to Cape Girardeau in 1971 and were owners of Johnson Equipment Co., a Case Equipment dealership. She transitioned into the retail women's clothing field and worked in management for Worth's, Dress Barn, Maurice's and Cato. She retired in 2009.

She was of the Lutheran belief.

Survivors include her five children, Cheryl (Marc) Cook and Terri Curtis of Cape Girardeau, Jerry (Carol) Curtis of Longtown, Missouri, William H. (Lisa) Curtis of Jackson, and Cindy Balsmann of Cape Girardeau; three stepsons, Steve (Delores) Johnson of Washington, Richard (Rhonda) Johnson of Texas and Brad (Lynda) Johnson of Arizona; one sister, Karen Hubbard of Canton, Illinois; 11 grandchildren, Emily (Mark) Schmitz, Erin (Pete) Ressler, Melissa Patterson, Billy Curtis, Erik, Rick, Lacey, Rose, Chloe and Brad Johnson and Sarah Oliver; and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Daryl E. Johnson.

There will be no visitation.

Funeral service will be private for the family only. Entombment will be at Cape County Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made in honor of Marilyn to the American Cancer Society, since she was a two-time breast cancer survivor, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
