DECATUR, Ill. — Clare M. “Marie” Wells, 96, of Decatur passed away Wednesday, Feb. 17, 2016.
One of five children, she was born Feb. 7, 1920, near Egypt Mills to Dr. O.J. and Clare J. Bray Miller. She and Joseph H. Wells were married April 10, 1948, in Cape Girardeau. They had been married 43 years when Joseph passed away May 30, 1991.
Marie was a devoted wife, mother, sister, nurse (registered nurse) and friend. She was a longtime member of Saints James and Patrick Parish in Decatur.
Loving survivors include three children, Joseph D. (Claudia) Wells of Berlin, Connecticut, Mary Danielson of Decatur and Rebecca Peacock of Thornton, Colorado; five grandchildren, Thomas Peacock, Amanda (Brett) Aten and Kristen Peacock, all of Colorado, and Matthew Wells and Stephen Wells, both of Connecticut; a great-grandson, Brett Aten III; and a sister-in-law, Janice Miller of St. Louis.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Edward Wells; an infant daughter, Nancy Clare Wells; and four siblings, Louise Gockel, George “Bud” Miller, Edison Miller and Joseph Miller.
A memorial Mass was celebrated at Saints James and Patrick Parish in Decatur.
Father David Hulshof will conduct graveside rites at 1 p.m. Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.
Local arrangements were by McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.
