Marie Allene Hitt Stalon, 89, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Dec. 14, 2018, at Chateau Gardens.
She was born on her parents farm in Cape Girardeau County on a warm Christmas morning in 1928, the daughter of Grover Benjamin Leander and Esther Ellen Snider Hitt. She married Charles Gary Stalon at the United Methodist Parsonage in Benton, Missouri, on March 15, 1952.
She attended Commerce Grade School and graduated from Benton (Missouri) High School. She worked as a payroll clerk in the office of International Shoe Co. in Cape Girardeau for more than four years prior to her marriage.
Marie was a devoted housewife, mother and grandmother. She supported her husband's career as it took them to far parts of the country, always making a warm and comforting home for her family. She was active in her church and local organizations in all the cities in which she and Charles lived. She was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.
She is survived by her husband, Charles Gary; two daughters, Connie Lucille (Eric) Estopinal of Houston and Donna Jean Williams of Carbondale, Illinois; and three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, Jason Charles (Michelle) Babbitt (Leah and Claire), Kriste Elizabeth (Brian) Del Castillo (Benjamin, Eli and Brian Jr.) and Dane Marcus (Laura) Babbitt (Clara and Emily) all of Houston; and two sisters-in-law, Peggy Hitt and Mary Jean Hitt of Cape Girardeau.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Earnest, Eugene, Herschel (Mary), Leon (Thelma), Cecil (Leona), Herman, Paul and Roby (Vernetta "Babe") Hitt; and sisters, Leatha (Ebert) Rister and Myrtle (Ed) Reed.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to noon Wednesday at Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau.
Funeral will follow at noon Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Dave Conley officiating, with a reception to follow at Chateau Girardeau in Cape Girardeau. A private burial will be held at a later date at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Centenary United Methodist Church, The Chateau Girardeau Foundation, Southeast Hospice or a charity of choice.
