JACKSON, Mo. -- Marianna Obermiller, 84, of Jefferson City, Mo., died Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at St. Mary's Health Center.

She was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Jackson, daughter of Theodore and Ethel Davis Obermiller.

Obermiller was a graduate of Jackson High School and Northwest Missouri State University.

She taught in Paola, Kan., Shenandoah, Iowa, taught girls physical education at Simonsen Junior High School, and in 1952 was nominated as one of two teachers in Missouri to compete for McCalls Magazine's Teacher of the Year Award.

Obermiller was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, serving as a teacher and deaconess, and was a member of Cole County Retired Teachers Association.

She served with the U.S. Navy Waves during World War II and was an activities director for the trainees.

Survivors include three sisters, Martha Egley of Webster Groves, Mo., Madge Abernathy of Centerville, Ohio, Myra Obermiller of Jefferson City; three brothers, James Obermiller of Grand Rapids, Mich., Jack Obermiller of Stuart, Fla., and Jerry Obermiller of Jefferson City.

She was preceded in death by two sisters.

Friends may call Saturday at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City from 10-11 a.m. Saturday.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Rudolph W. Beard officiating. Entombment will be in Riverview Cemetery Mausoleum.

Houser-Millard Funeral Home in Jefferson City is in charge of arrangements.
