MILLERSVILLE, Mo. -- Maple Byrd Roberts, 93, of Millersville, died Saturday, May 19, 2001, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Oct. 28, 1907, the son of Byrd Granger and Anna "Rhoda" Miller Roberts. He and Thomza Proffer were married on June 10, 1932, and she died in 1973. He and Ruth Matthews were married on Sept. 12, 1981.
Roberts was a member of Millersville United Methodist Church and a former member of the Elks Lodge in Jackson, Mo. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving as corporal from March to December 1945. He owned and operated farms near Millersville in his early career. In 1961, he began working for the city of Kansas City, Mo., in the pollution control department. He retired in 1972.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jim Roberts of Costa Rica and Mike Roberts of Millersville; a step-daughter, Paula Conder of Danville, Ill.; and several grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home; the Rev. Nick Perry will officiate. Burial will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery.
