COBEN, Ill. -- Mable Irene Blake, 70, of Herrin, Ill., formerly of Cobden, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at her home in Herrin. COBEN, Ill. -- Mable Irene Blake, 70, of Herrin, Ill., formerly of Cobden, died Saturday, Oct. 8, 2005 at her home in Herrin.

She was born Feb. 9, 1935, in Union County, daughter of James Earl and Mable Marie Askew Modglin.

She is survived by two daughters, Laura Blake of Chicago and Linda Blake of Marietta, S.C.; one son, Larry and wife, Valerie Blake, of Herrin.

Irene adored her four grandchildren, Colin James Kinser of Bradenton, Fla., Maxwell Thomas Lowe of Marietta, S.C., Jordan Nicole Blake and Jaylan Madison Blake of Herrin. Daughter-in-law Valerie Blake focused a lot of time and energy on Mom's needs and Mom loved her like a daughter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, James Modglin, and a sister, Georgia Modglin Gunn.

Irene was employed by the state of Illinois for over 20 years and made many good friends throughout her years there. The family would like to thank Beverly Smith, Deanna Young, Loretta Harper and Sally Potter for their love and support during Mom's lifetime and especially the last two and a half years while she battled lung cancer.

We would also like to extend thanks to caregiver Brenda Lence, who helped us care for Mom in her last days, and to family friends, Christina and Brent Carney, for their continuous love and support.

Friends may call from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home in Cobden.

Funeral services for Ms. Mable Irene Blake will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Lutz and Rendleman Funeral Home with the Rev. Clifford Heil officiating. Interment will be in the Cobden Cemetery.

The family requests no flowers. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Carterville Ambulance, Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Cobden Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
