Mabel Hunze Schaefer of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, Sept. 24, 2009, at Chateau Girardeau Garden.
She was born in Jackson, daughter of August and Minnie Peetz Hoffmeister.
Mabel attended Jackson Public Schools and Cape Beauty School. She owned and operated a beauty salon in Jackson, and for many years owned and operated Mabel's Beauty Salon on Harmony Street in Cape Girardeau. She was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral.
Mabel was married to Terry Hunze on Aug. 3, 1940. He preceded her in death May 9, 1979. She and Richard Schaefer were married Sept. 12, 1991. He preceded her in death Aug. 18, 1999.
Survivors include a sister, Carlene Kasten of Jackson; a brother, Norman Hoffmeister of St. Louis; numerous nieces and nephews; plus many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.
There is no visitation.
Private burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
Funeral Mass will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral, with the Rev. Tom Kiefer officiating.
Memorials may be made to St. Mary's School Building Fund.
Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
