MABEL LEE MELTON

EAST PRAIRIE -- Mabel Lee Melton, 91, of Louisville, Ky., formerly of Anniston, died Thursday, April 21, 1994, at the Meadow View Nursing Center in Louisville of an extended illness.

She was born July 25, 1902 in Anniston, the daughter of John and Cora Ford Waters.

In 1923, she married Gaston Ray Melton, who preceded her in death on Feb. 12, 1979. She was of the Methodist denomination.

She had lived in Louisville since 1988, moving from Missouri. She and her husband owned and operated Melton's General Store in Anniston for several years.

Surviving are one son, Ray Melton of Louisville; one sister, Grace Kovacik of St. Louis; one granddaughter; and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 1 to 2 p.m. today at the Shelby Funeral Home in East Prairie.

Graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. today at the Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Rev. Richard Combs, pastor of the United Methodist Church of Charleston, officiating.
