Lyman Wilson Moore, 77, of Cape Girardeau died Saturday, Aug. 21, 1999, at his home.
He was born March 5, 1922, in Cape Girardeau, son of the late Fred Alf and Gladys Anna Baird Moore. He and Jewell Frances Nitsch were married Nov. 27, 1941, in Cape Girardeau.
He was a graduate of Central High School and attended Ball State and Southeast Missouri State universities. He had worked for Missouri Utilities and Union Electric for 48 years, retiring as assistant operating superintendent in 1987.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and had served in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He received the Good Conduct Medal and the American Theater Campaign and Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign medals.
He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3838 and also held memberships in Elks Lodge 639, American Legion Post 63 and Cape Area Engineers Club.
He is survived by his wife, of the home; three sons, Fred Moore of Brandon, Miss., and James Lee and Ronald Joe Moore, both of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Jean Ann McLain of Cape Girardeau and Joni Stanley of Lee's Summit; a stepbrother, George Points of Cape Girardeau; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and a grandson.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Sprigg Street Chapel. Parish Prayers will begin at 7 o'clock.
Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Vincent de Paul Church, with the Rev. Milton Ryan officiating. VFW Post 3838 will conduct graveside rites at St. Mary Cemetery.
