JACKSON: Lydia Sievers, age 93, passed away Monday, November 29, 1999, at the Lutheran Home in Cape Girardeau. She was born June 23, 1906 in Tilsit, Missouri, the daughter of the former William and Anna Best Fluegge, Jr. On April 16, 1928, she married Walter B. Sievers. He passed away on March 30, 1958.
Survivors include 1 daughter and son-in-law, Shirley and William J. Beggs of Cape Girardeau; 1 sister, Elda Bray of DeSoto, Missouri; 1 brother, Marvin Fluegge of Charleston, Missouri; Granddaughters & spouses: Sheri and Gary Dost of Shawneetown and Dr. Rebecca and J Bennett of Sylvania, Ohio. Grandsons and spouses: William W. and Diana Beggs of Kelso; Bruce and Karen Beggs of Scott City and Brad and Ellen Beggs of St. Louis and 10 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; 1 son, Nelson E. Sievers; and infant son, Harold Sievers; a brother, Albert Fluegge; and a sister, Alma Birk.
Mrs. Sievers was baptized, confirmed and married at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tilsit, Missouri. Prior to her marriage, she worked at the former International Shoe Company in Jackson. Upon moving to Jackson after her marriage, she became an active member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church. She was formerly in charge of the Cradle Roll, a member of the LWML, and fulfilled various officer roles in the St. Paul Ladies Aid. After the death of her husband, she worked in alterations at the former Roziers Department Store in uptown Jackson. Having lived very near the St. Paul Lutheran Church and School, she willingly opened her home and boarded numerous young Lutheran school teachers.
Friends may call at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Jackson on Friday, December 3rd, between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 at the church, followed by interment in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson. Rev. Robert Henrichs will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to the St. Paul Lutheran Building Fund.
