LUTHER EUGENE "GENE" THORNTON

Luther Eugene "Gene" Thornton, 72, of St. Louis, died Monday, Aug. 24, 1992 at his home in St. Louis.

He was born April 14, 1920 in St. Louis, the son of Bert and Sarah Brooks Thornton.

He is survived by two sons, Richard Thornton, Kingwood Texas, Barry Thornton, Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Debbie Crenshaw, Walls, Miss., Cindy Halupnik, Memphis, Tenn.; one brother, Ralph Thornton, St. Louis; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Two brothers preceded him in death.

He had moved to Cape Girardeau in 1954 from St. Louis. He lived here from 1954 to 1979, when moved back to St. Louis.

He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Cape Girardeau and was a long-time drug representative for Norco Drug Co. He retired in 1985.

Funeral service was held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel with the Rev. Ed Brasington officiating. Burial followed in Memorial Park Cemetery.
