Luther Collins, 71, of 1920 LaWanda died Sunday, May 2, 1993, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Dec. 17, 1921, at Schlatitz, the son of James Henderson and Holly Tine Roberts Collins. He married Irene G. Shell on Jan. 19, 1943, in Piggott, Ark. She survives of the home.

He was a veteran of World War II and a member of the First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau.

He worked for James Eaker Construction Inc. for 27 years, retiring in 1982. He was a member of VFW Post 3838 in Cape Girardeau. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the Army.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Collins of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Raymond Collins of Marble Hill; a sister, Freida Thorn of Kankakee, Ill.; and two grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. today at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel, where funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday. The Rev. John Owen will officiate.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. VFW Post 3838 will conduct graveside military services.
