Lulu Emma Kelpe, 88, 3120 Independence, died Monday, May 13, 1996, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.
She was born Sept. 4, 1907, at Leemon, daughter of Benjamin and Amelia Froemsdorf Sides. She and Walter F. Kelpe were married Aug. 4, 1929, in Jackson. He died in July 1986.
Kelpe taught at Emmaus Lutheran School in St. Louis from 1929-31. She taught first grade at Trinity Lutheran School in Cape Girardeau from 1927-29 and from 1949-81.
She was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church, Hanover Ladies Aid, Trinity Guild, and Aid Association for Lutherans Branch 1622.
Survivors include a son, Robert Kelpe of Lakeland, Fla.; three daughters, Betty Deardorff of Cape Girardeau, Mary Dunn of Nashville, Tenn., Kathleen Schaefer of St. Louis; two brothers, Raymond Sides of Frohna, Willie Sides of Jackson; 12 grandchildren, and 32 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother and sister.
Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.
Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Hanover Church, with the Rev. Jeffrey Sippy officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Cemetery.
