She was born Feb. 19, 1913, in Zalma, Mo., daughter of Marvin B. and May Back Moore. She and Elvis Guthrie "Gup" Gateley were married June 30, 1934, in Cape Girardeau. He passed away March 17, 1986.

She was of the Baptist belief. Lucy was baptized May 6, 1928, at Oran First Baptist Church and then was a member of First Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau almost 50 years.

Lucy was a graduate of Oran High School where she played basketball, making All-Star her junior year. She was PTA president, Sunday school teacher many years and was a volunteer at Southeast Missouri Hospital. Her hobbies were sewing and she made all her little girls' clothing. She also loved to quilt.

Lucy touched many lives and left a special impression with people who knew and loved her. We wish to praise God for blessing our lives with a wonderful mother who loved the Lord, her children and loving family members.
