Lucretia Drum, 56, chairwoman of the Cape County Democratic Party Central Committee, died Friday, April 26, 1997, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Drum was known as an advocate for including more women in politics and helped organize President Bill Clinton's visit last year. She had heart trouble and was scheduled for heart surgery next week, friends said.
Rick Althaus, county vice chairman, said, "I have a Ph.D in political science, but I learned more about grass-roots politics from her than I did in my studies. From the time I began to be involved in the party in the 1980s, she essentially took me under her wing, she introduced me to people, she reminded me of details of local history and interpersonal dynamics."
Funeral arrangements are incomplete with Cracraft-Miller Funeral Home in Jackson.
