DELTA, Mo. -- Lucille Kidd, 82, died Monday, June 4, 2001, at the family home in Delta.
She was born Sept. 10, 1918, near Whitewater, Mo., daughter of the late Charles Pinkney and Ora Mollenhour Rhodes. She married Lawrence W. Kidd July 2, 1946. He survives.
Lucille worked in the garment industry in St. Louis and Cape Girardeau many years. She retired as a top stitcher at Sports Specialty Shoe Co. in Chaffee, Mo. Lucille was an Avon representative, retiring after 40 years of service.
She was a member of the General Baptist Church of Arbor, Mo., where she taught Sunday School 30 years. Lucille was an Oak Valley 4-H sewing instructor 10 years; president of Stroderville Cemetery Association 31 years, during which time she helped restore and preserve the cemetery; and was a member of Order of Eastern Star Chapter 174 of Whitewater more than 50 years.
Survivors include a daughter, Imogene Miller of Lacon, Ill.; two brothers, Leonard Rhodes of Arnold, Mo., Willard Lee Rhodes of Ferguson, Mo.; three sisters, Marie Withers of Florissant, Mo., Louella Nothdurft of Cape Girardeau, LaVerne Langston of Hazelwood, Mo.; and a nephew, Ken Langston of St. Ann, Mo., who was raised by Lucille and Lawrence during his early years. Also surviving are many other nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul and John Henry Rhodes, and two sisters, Virginia Flowers and Dorothy Goodman.
Friends may call after 5 p.m. today at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee. Order of Eastern Star service will be held at 7.
Funeral service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel. Officiant is the Rev. Bob Bradford, assisted by the Rev. Jack Owens. Burial will follow at Stroderville Cemetery near Whitewater.
