PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Loy H. Nelson, 94, of Perryville died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau. He was born in Perry County, Mo., Oct. 29, 1916, son of Mac Arthur and Eunice Mary Hudson Nelson. He and Marita Kathryn Loiseau were married May 7, 1949...

PERRYVILLE, Mo. -- Loy H. Nelson, 94, of Perryville died Sunday, July 17, 2011, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.

He was born in Perry County, Mo., Oct. 29, 1916, son of Mac Arthur and Eunice Mary Hudson Nelson. He and Marita Kathryn Loiseau were married May 7, 1949.

Nelson was owner/operator and partner in L&N IGA Food Liner and partner in Village Bi-Rite Grocery Store and Nelson Shop for Children, all in Perryville. He was a member and former elder of First Presbyterian Church, member of American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282, AMVETS Post 94, Lions Club, Boy Scouts leader and former member of Perryville Chamber of Commerce.

He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his wife; four sons, Stephen (Terry) Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Kent (Brenda) Nelson of Perryville, Thomas (Verna) Nelson of Cape Girardeau, Douglas (Susi) Nelson of St. Louis; eight grandchildren; and a great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Earl, Herbert, Orville, Cletus and Fred Nelson; five sisters, May, Ruth and Beatrice Nelson, Ora Guth and Ruby Lakenan.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Young and Sons Funeral Home.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Bruce Owens officiating. Burial will be in Home Cemetery with military graveside service provided by American Legion Post 133 and Delta Team.

Memorials are preferred to First Presbyterian Church General Fund.
