Louis Glenn "Louie" Williams, 60, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, July 20, 2008, in his sleep at his home.
He was born Aug. 14, 1947, in Pontiac, Mich., son of the late Ulyss Glenn and Violet Lucille Van Bibber Williams of Chaffee, Mo.
Williams graduated from Dexter High School in Dexter, Mo., in 1966.
He and Linda K. Brown were married Aug. 13, 1967. They spent the remaining years in Cape Girardeau. His only child blessed his life June 20, 1985, the sole heir of the family line. The best times of his life were spent "watching Codey grow" and when his small family was happy and together.
After high school he joined the family business as an upholsterer, a trade he learned from his father that served him well over the years.
In later years he entered retail sales, working at Sleepy Hollow, Dushell Furniture and Dean Taylor Cadillac. Because of a commercial he made for Sleepy Hollow, he was known as the man who jumped up and down on waterbeds.
Small children always followed him around because of his resemblance to Santa Claus, and he delighted in their attention.
When he was forced into early retirement, he became involved in flea marketing and continued selling until his health forced him to give it up. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church.
He is survived by his wife, Linda K. Williams; a son and light of his life, Codey G. Williams of Cape Girardeau; his mother, Violet Williams; a brother, Harry Williams of Chaffee; his constant companion and friend, Spunky Williams of the home; brothers-in-law and their wives; a sister-in-law of Jacksonville, Fla.; numerous nieces and nephews of Cape Girardeau and Jacksonville; and extended family from the Dexter area.
He was preceded in death by his father; his only sister, Genoa McLard; and a brother, Rodger Williams.
Friends may call from 11 a.m. until service time Friday at St. Mark Lutheran Church.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at the church, with the Rev. S. Michael Malone officiating.
Ford and Sons Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
