Louis F. Stoops, 72, of Jackson died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Monticello House in Jackson. He was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Merritt and Verda May Stoops. Stoops played baseball for the Cincinnati Reds Farm Club in Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1964, and was a pitcher in the special services traveling to Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, the Carolinas, Germany, Spain, France and England...

Louis F. Stoops, 72, of Jackson died Sunday, Feb. 15, 2004, at Monticello House in Jackson.

He was born Dec. 11, 1931, in Cape Girardeau, son of Merritt and Verda May Stoops.

Stoops played baseball for the Cincinnati Reds Farm Club in Texas. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952 to 1964, and was a pitcher in the special services traveling to Texas, Missouri, Kentucky, the Carolinas, Germany, Spain, France and England.

He was a barber in Dallas, Texas, until returning to Cape Girardeau in 1997.

Survivors include a son, Michael Stoops of Windsor, Conn.; a brother, T.H. Stoops, and a sister, Zola Huckstep, both of Cape Girardeau.

He was preceded in death by two sisters.

There is no service.

McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson is in charge of arrangements.
