CAIRO, Ill. -- Funeral for Louis E. Sackberger of Cairo will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo. Dr. Derek Staples will officiate. Burial will be in Beechwood Cemetery at Mounds, Ill.
Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Friday.
Sackberger, 74, died Tuesday, March 5, 2002, at his home.
He was born Oct. 26, 1927, in Cairo, son of Edward and Martha Ross Sackberger.
Sackberger was a tug boat pilot many years with Canal Barge Lines in New Orleans and Hollywood Marine in Pasadena, Texas.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Florence; five daughters, Alda Davis of Olney, Ill., Ruth Groves of Cairo, Donna Quesenberry of Thebes, Ill., Janie Sackberger of Cape Girardeau, Giggy Owens of Bryan, Texas; a son, Jeff Sackberger of Willis, Texas; a sister, Donna Hartmann of Cairo; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
