Lorene "Lettie" H. Grable, 91, of Cape Girardeau passed away peacefully Wednesday, April 6, 2022.

All who knew her know how much she loved life. She was always "upbeat" and thrilled to be doing things for others. She loved hosting family and friends in her home, always greeting you with a bounce in her step, a huge smile on her face and clapping her hands with joy. Should you stop by the house, you would always find her either in a Bible study, doing yard work or cleaning.

Lorene was born Sept. 11, 1930, in Risco, Missouri, to William and Della Hoxworth. She graduated from Wardell (Missouri) High School in 1948. She was married to Bill Holland from May 8, 1948, until his death Jan. 11, 1971. She was married to Dr. James D. Grable from Nov. 29, 1980, until his death Nov. 7, 2007.

Lorene was a former member of Portageville (Missouri) United Methodist Church, where she was a devoted choir member and loved to sing. She was also a member of the Portageville Order of Eastern Star. She was a charter member of LaCroix Church, where she was very active and hosted a ladies sharing group in her home for 24 years. She loved and was dearly loved for sending cards and letters -- literally hundreds -- to shut-ins, hospital and nursing home patients, classmates, friends and family. Her church recently recognized her for the blessings she brought to so many with her special ministry.

Survivors include her stepson, Jim (Patty) Grable of Firestone, Colorado; stepdaughter, Kaye Grable of Hermitage, Tennessee; brother, David (Connie Roberts) Hoxworth of Rolla, Missouri; sister-in-law, Francis Hoxworth; seven grandchildren, Chris Ashbrand, Tim (Connie) Ashbrand, Amanda (Tommy) Johnson, Matt Grable, Bradley (Erica) Grable, Carey (Julianna) Grable and Jamie (Ryan) Vickers; and 12 great-grandchildren.
