JACKSON, Mo. -- Loran Donald Jones, 73, of Oriole, Mo., died Friday, March 2, 2001, at his residence.

He was born May 1, 1927, at Dexter, Mo., son of Donald Loran and Jenny Rice Jones. He and Gladys Anne Clark were married May 1, 1976.

Jones served in the Army from Feb. 25, 1946, to April 4, 1947. He worked for Wilson Meat Packing House in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, from 1953 until his retirement in 1978. He moved to Oriole in 1979 and opened the Happy Hollow Tavern, which he operated until 1995. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson, Mo., and the VFW and American Legion in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include his wife; five sons, Morris "Mo" Dean Jones of Whitewater, Mo., Gordy Jones of Fort Worth, Texas, Richard Jones, Steve Jones, and Kenny Jones, all of Jackson; three stepsons, Virgil, Edwin and Jeffery Clark, all of Lisbon, Iowa; three stepdaughters, Carolyn Wilter of Colorado, Delores Washburn of Hiawatha, Iowa, and Denise Martin of Albernette, Iowa; a brother, Bill Jones of Hot Springs, Ark.; three sisters, Nadene Roberts, Virginia Paisley and Rosemary Lee Hahn, all of Cedar Rapids; 32 grandchildren; and 20 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Friends may call at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson from 4-8 p.m. today. Parish prayers will be said at 7:30 p.m. today.

Funeral Mass will be 10 a.m. Monday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Jackson. Msgr. Edward Eftink will officiate, with burial including a military honors service in Russell Heights Cemetery in Jackson.
