Lonnie Murl Freed, 82, of Scott City died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born July 27, 1926, in Hagarville, Ark., son of Arch Monroe and Nettie Lou Stone Freed. He and Laverne Patrick were married Dec. 12, 1951, in Piggott, Ark.

Freed was a master mechanic and had worked for R.B Potashnick and Missouri Illinois Tractor Equipment Co. He was a member of New Life Gospel Center and Assembly of God Church in Scott City.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Rickey and Danny Freed of Cape Girardeau; three daughters, Konnie Keller of Scott City, Janie Niswonger of Ocala, Fla., Linda Clifton of Jacksonville, Fla.; a brother, Vester "Beck" Freed of La Follette, Tenn.; four sisters, Elsie Lewis of Homestead, Fla., Louise Briggs of Colorado Springs, Colo., Billie Jean Walters of Flint, Mich., Gladys Duke of Stephenville, Texas; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and three great-stepgrandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the chapel, with the Revs. Jack Owens and Randy Morse officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery with military graveside rites by Missouri Honor Program.
