Lola Mae Layton, 95, of Cape Girardeau passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at Chateau Girardeau Health Center.

She was born May 20, 1922, in Farmington, Missouri, to the late Larry and Katie Resinger O'Sullivan.

She was a graduate of Farmington High School.

On April 23, 1951, she married the love of her life, Clarence Anthony Layton, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Farmington. Clarence was an Army veteran of World War II.

While living in Farmington, Lola worked as a secretary for a local law firm. In 1960, the Laytons moved to Cape Girardeau, where Lola worked many years and retired from the Social Security Administration.

Lola was liked by all, known as a sweet and caring person. She enjoyed crafts, painting pictures and was excellent at knitting. She also enjoyed traveling with Clarence and friends to various destinations and always loved to shop while there.

She was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

She is survived by two nephews, Tom (Jeannie) O'Sullivan of Ferguson, Missouri, and Larry O'Sullivan of Wentzville, Missouri; a niece, Gayle (Gilder) Varn of Wentzville; a cousin, Dorothy Moranville of Farmington; and a close cousin-in-law, Rita Beuerlein of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clarence on July 2, 2011; and three brothers, Larry O'Sullivan, who was killed in action in World War II, Harold and William.

The family would like to thank all the staff at Chateau Girardeau for all the loving care given to Lola.

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Cape Girardeau.

Funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Rick Jones officiating. Burial will be at Cape County Memorial Park Cemetery in Cape Girardeau.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
