Lois Brougher

Lois N. Brougher, 82, of Gordonville passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at her home.

She was born Aug. 29, 1925, in Robertsdale, Ala., to Norman and Dolly Pierce Dawson. She and F. "Jim" Brougher were married Sept. 25, 1958. He passed away Feb. 12, 1974.

The Broughers lived in Fairhope, Ala., and Lois worked as a hostess at the former Grand Hotel in Point Clear, Ala. The family also lived several years in Pensacola, Fla.

Lois moved to Jackson in 1981. She did in-home baby-sitting for several families, and she developed a special friendship with many officers on the Jackson Police Department. She was an avid gardener and gifted cook, and especially enjoyed frying fish for the patrolmen when they had a good catch. She moved to Gordonville in 2006.

She was a member of First Baptist Church in Jackson.

Loving survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Patricia and Les Cotner of Kelso, Mo., Christy and Steve Hess of Gordonville; three grandchildren, Cindy Weaver of O'Fallon, Mo., Duane Slaubaugh of Raymore, Mo., Angie Hankins of Cape Girardeau, Mo.; two stepgranddaughters, Jennifer Bridwell of Jackson, Sarah Heisserer of New Hamburg, Mo.; and eight great-grandchildren, Tanner, Bradley, Lexy, Madison, Lydia, Abby, Brennen, Bailey; a sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Phillip Brown of Spanish Fort, Ala.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jim; and a sister, Louise Bankester.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. today at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Johnny Seabaugh officiating. Burial will follow in Cape County Memorial Park in Cape Girardeau.

Serving as pallbearers are Les Cotner, Steve Hess, Duane Slaubaugh, Ron Weaver, Howie Hammers and Bob Bonney.
