Lloyd A. Schattauer, 83, of Cape Girardeau, formerly of Pocahontas, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Missouri Veterans Home.
He was born Sept. 6, 1924, in Cape Girardeau County, son of August and Ella Schroeder Schattauer. He and Erna Meyr were married April 14, 1950, in Pocahontas.
Lloyd was a member of Hanover Lutheran Church in Cape Girardeau. He was a former member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Pocahontas where he was baptized and confirmed.
He was employed 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service as postmaster at Pocahontas, retiring in 1990. He was a founding member of the public water district and rural fire department of the surrounding Pocahontas area.
Schattauer served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Altenthal-Joerns American Legion Post 158 in Jackson and VFW more than 60 years.
Loving survivors include his wife, Erna Schattauer of Cape Girardeau; a son, Keith Schattauer of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sandra (John) Mercille of Fenton, Mo.; a sister, Lillie Schilling of Jackson; two granddaughters, Christine Brown of Eureka, Mo., and Cara Mercille of Memphis, Tenn.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Friday at McCombs Funeral Home in Jackson.
The funeral will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with Vicar Tony Kobak officiating. Interment will follow in Russell Heights Cemetery with graveside military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to American Alzheimer's Association, Hanover Lutheran Church Building Fund, or St. John's Lutheran Church.
