Lloyd Clarence McDowell, 85, of Coral Springs, Fla., died Friday, Aug. 10, 2001, at Boca Raton Community Hospital.
He was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Cape Girardeau County, son of Charles J. and Nellie Howard McDowell.
McDowell graduated from the former Fruitland High School and Southeast Missouri State Teachers College. He was a member of the state championship basketball teams of the high school and college.
He was a teacher and coach at Benton and Bismarck, Mo., high schools. McDowell operated Godwin-McDowell Chrysler Plymouth car dealership in Cape Girardeau before moving to Fort Lauderdale, Fla. He then owned and operated Trailer Ranches in Fort Lauderdale and Coral Springs.
Survivors include two sons, Robert and Ronald McDowell; two sisters, Genevieve Chapman of Tonawanda, N.Y., Wilma Whitledge of Jackson, Mo.; a brother, Elliot McDowell of Scottsdale, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
