PERRYVILLE -- Linus A. Pingel, 82, of Perryville died Sunday, Feb. 14, 1999, at Southeast Missouri Hospital in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Sept. 16, 1916, at Biehle, son of Adolph and Regina Zoellner Pingel. He and Eleanor E. Wirth were married May 11, 1939, at Perryville.

Pingel was the owner of Handy Drive-In Liquor Store in Perryville.

He was an Army veteran, serving during World War II for which he received a Bronze Star.

He was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville, a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Order of Fleas.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW, serving twice as the commander of the Fischer-Walter Memorial VFW Post 4282 in Perryville. He also served as the service officer.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, John A. Pingel of Perryville and Jim L. Pingel of Hillsboro; a daughter, Kathleen M. Pingel of Perryville; three sisters, Matilda Queathem of St. Charles, and Olitha Berkbigler and Merle Cissell, both of Perryville; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, sister and daughter.

Friends may call at the Miller Family Funeral Home in Perryville from 4 to 8 p.m. today, with a parish wake service with the Knights of Columbus at 7:15 and a VFW service at 7:30. Friends may also call from 6:30 to 9:50 a.m. Tuesday, with rosary recited at 9 o'clock.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Perryville. The Rev. Richard Lause will officiate, with burial at Mount Hope Cemetery in Perryville.
