Lindel R. Hodge, 67, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born March 24, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, to Edwin R. and Elizabeth I. McClard Hodge. He and Roxie Peyton were married March 30, 1968. They had been married 25 years when she passed away in 1993...

Lindel R. Hodge, 67, of Jackson passed away Sunday, Sept. 30, 2012, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born March 24, 1945, in Cape Girardeau, to Edwin R. and Elizabeth I. McClard Hodge. He and Roxie Peyton were married March 30, 1968. They had been married 25 years when she passed away in 1993.

Lindel entered the U.S. Army on Nov. 19, 1962. He served in multiple locations including Vietnam and Germany. He was honorably discharged Jan. 5, 1973.

After his military service, he worked many years as an over-the-road truck driver. A cancer diagnosis caused his retirement in 2011. He attended New Bethel Baptist Church near Pocahontas and was a life member of VFW.

He recently moved to Port Charlotte, Fla., and was enjoying fishing, boating and NASCAR.

Loving survivors include a son, Lindel B. Hodge of Brinkley, Ark.; a granddaughter, Shontaya Hodge of Indiana; two sisters, Darlene (Mac) Wilkerson of Gravel Hill, Mo., and Shirlene (Donald) Pickert of Fredericktown, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his wife; a son, Benjamin R. Hodge; a brother, Garry Hodge; and his parents.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until time of service today at McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

The funeral will be today at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. John Rhodes officiating. A committal service with full military honors will be held at 3 p.m. at the Missouri State Veterans Cemetery in Bloomfield, Mo.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
