Lillian Birkman

Lillian L. Birkman, 86, of Cape Girardeau died Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Southeast Hospital.

She was born May 10, 1929, in McClure, Illinois, to Thomas F. and Eulah M. Simpkins Hill. She and Louis "Junior" Birkman were married June 18, 1983, at Cape Girardeau.

Lillian retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in May 1985 after 26 years of service. She was a member of Cape Rock Eastern Star Chapter 60, where she was very active for many years.

Lillian was also a member of Telephone Pioneers many years.

Survivors include her husband, Louis "Junior" Birkman of Cape Girardeau; a daughter, Sandy (Chuck) Ortiz of Cape Girardeau; a sister, Clara Randol of East Cape Girardeau, Illinois; grandchildren Tracy Brooks of St. Joseph, Illinois, Stacy Bates of Champaign, Illinois, Charlie Ortiz of Cape Girardeau and Maria Hickey of Dallas, Georgia; three nieces; a nephew; and several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a sister.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today Ford and Sons Mount Auburn Funeral Home in Cape Girardeau, with an Eastern Star service at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.

A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Casey Elmore officiating. There will be a private entombment at Memorial Park Mausoleum in Cape Girardeau at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be given to Mount Auburn Christian Church.
