MINER -- L.F. Wheeler, mayor of the city of Miner, died Saturday Oct. 22, 1994, at his home.
Wheeler, 75, was born in Jackson, Tenn., June 28, 1919, the son of Benjamin Howard and Birdie Richardson Wheeler.
On April 10, 1948, he married Dixie Spears, who survives.
Other survivors include: two daughters, Andrea Kimbrough and Dixie D. Wheeler, both of Miner; three brothers, Leon Wheeler of Lexington, Tenn., Joseph Wheeler of Jonesboro, Ark., and Sam Wheeler of Huntsville, Ala.; one sister, Delores Wallace of Lexington, Tenn.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Prior to his retirement, he owned and operated Modern Floor Covering. He was serving as vice chairman of the Bootheel Regional Planning Commission, a member of the Sikeston Area Chamber of Commerce, past chairman of the Bootheel Law Council, a member of the Bootheel Mayors' Association, Sikeston Masonic Lodge #310, and a past member of the Shriner's Horse Patrol. He had attended Miner Baptist Church.
Visitation will be today after 5 p.m. at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston, where Masonic rites are scheduled for 7 p.m.
The funeral service will be Monday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, with the Rev. Dale Merritt, pastor of Miner Baptist Church, officiating.
Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories.
