CAIRO, Ill. -- Lewis Jones, 86, of Cairo died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo. He was born Aug. 7, 1917, near Coffeeville, Miss., son of Fred and Stella Jones. He and Eloise Blocker were married March 24, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. CAIRO, Ill. -- Lewis Jones, 86, of Cairo died Thursday, Aug. 14, 2003, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.

He was born Aug. 7, 1917, near Coffeeville, Miss., son of Fred and Stella Jones. He and Eloise Blocker were married March 24, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa. They moved to Cairo shortly after their marriage.

Jones worked almost 35 years at Interstate Mill in Cairo, retiring in 1982. He was a member of Jehovah's Witnesses in Cairo.

He was discharged from the military in 1946, having served in Guam during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Julie Newell of Cairo, Sarah Jones and Rebecca Ulrich of Alameda, Calif., Marilyn McGhee of Atlanta, Ga., Rachel Jones of Washington, D.C.; four sons, John Jones of Cairo, Fred Jones of Mound City, Ill., Peter Jones of Washington, D.C., Reuben Jones of Seattle, Wash.; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a son and four sisters.

Friends may call at Barkett Funeral Home in Cairo from 5 to 9 p.m. Monday.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. Burial will be in Mound City National Cemetery.
