KARNAK, Ill. -- Funeral service for Lewis "Cub" Evers, 59, of Belknap were held Wednesday at the Wilson Funeral Home in Karnak, Ill., with the Rev. Raymond Davis officiating. Burial was at the Masonic Cemetery in Grand Chain, Ill.

He died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau from injuries received in an automobile accident near Perks, Ill., Monday morning.

He was employed at Unimin Minerals Inc. at Elco, Ill. He was a member of the Belknap Community Church, the National Rifle Association, the Johnson County Sheriff's Association, and Laborers Local 273 of North America.

He is survived by his wife, Genevieve Hanle Evers of Belknap; two sons, Richard Evers of Belknap and Gerald Douglas of Chatsworth, Ga.; a daughter, Becky Carr of Belknap; four grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Blanch Allen Evers, and by a son, a brother and a sister.
