Lester "Buddy" Gene Wright, 80, of Jackson passed away Monday, Feb. 8, 2016, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Aug. 8, 1935, in Cape Girardeau, the son of Oscar and Minnie Hoffmeister Wright. He and Nancy Miner were married Jan. 30, 1982, at Maple United Methodist Church in Cape Girardeau.

Lester was a graduate of Jackson High School, class of 1955. He farmed with his father in the Fruitland area and worked 11 years at the former Jackson Meat Plant. He then worked 25 years in the mechanical maintenance department at Proctor and Gamble, retiring in 1994.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife. He and Nancy traveled all over the United States, covering 48 of the 50 states.

Survivors include his loving wife of 34 years; two nephews, Steve (Lisa) Cook of Cape Girardeau and Jack (Pam) Cook of Fruitland; a niece, Kathy (Rodney) Enderle of Jackson; four sisters-in-law, Florence (Tom) Leggett, Carolyn (Del) Goodrich, Helen Miner and Mary Miner; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; two sisters; and a nephew, David Cook.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. until service time Thursday at the chapel of McCombs Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Jackson.

A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Jim Cooper officiating.

Memorials may take the form of contributions to Maple United Methodist Church Building Fund, 2441 Jean Ann Drive, Cape Girardeau, MO 63701, or the church or charity of your choice.
