Lester O. Raines, 88, of Scott City died Wednesday, April 27, 2005, at Missouri Veterans Home in Cape Girardeau.
He was born Dec. 16, 1916, at Illmo, son of Franklin R. and Anna Pauline Leible Raines. He and Leila Inez Taylor were married May 25, 1946, in Patterson, Texas. She died Oct. 27, 1996.
Raines was a carpenter with Columbia Construction in Cape Girardeau.
He was a first sergeant with the U.S. Army during World War II.
Survivors include a son, Ben Raines of Scott City; two brothers, Joseph and Norman Raines of Scott City; three sisters, Vernedia Blattel and Alene Heisserer of Scott City, Bernice Raines of Cape Girardeau; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son and two brothers.
Friends may call at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Friday.
The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the chapel, with the Rev. Rennie Phillips officiating. Burial will be in Lightner Cemetery at Scott City.
