Lester Everet Pind, 82, of Cape Girardeau died Sunday, April 23, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.

He was born Feb. 17, 1918, in Cape Girardeau, son of George Jack and Carrie Stillwell Pind. He and Imogene Smith were married Feb. 17, 1939, in Perryville.

Pind was a graduate of Central High School and attended Bradley University. He taught horology at Bradley, moved to Steele and opened an Army Surplus Store, then moved to Poplar Bluff and taught horology at watch making school.

He moved to Cape Girardeau in 1951 and owned and operated Pind's Jewelry 45 years. The business operated on Spanish Street, then Main Street, and at West Park Mall. Pind was a member of First Presbyterian Church. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Jerry and Michael Pind of Cape Girardeau; two daughters, Judy Brown and Cheri Herbst of Cape Girardeau; a brother, Woodrow Pind of Kansas City; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by three sisters and two brothers.

Friends may call at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Frank Gutherie officiating. Burial will be in Cape County Memorial Park.
