MATTHEWS, Mo. -- Lester Moore King, 89, of Matthews died Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at Missouri Delta Medical Center in Sikeston, Mo.
He was born July 22, 1911, in Ruma, Ill., son of James Robert and Carrie Lydia Moore King. He and Luthada Ashley were married July 29, 1942. She died Nov. 25, 1977. He and Elizabeth Pickle were married in February 1984.
King received a master's degree in education from Murray State University. He was a teacher, coach and superintendent 40 years at Matthews Schools. He was a member of First Christian Church.
He was a staff sergeant during World War II and served in Germany.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Joe King of Dexter, Mo., Bill King of Dwight, Ill.; a daughter, Brenda Henry of New Madrid, Mo.; a brother, Robert King of Casper, Wyo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ponder Funeral Home in Sikeston from 5-8 p.m. today.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. The Rev. Caston Countz will officiate. Burial will be in Sikeston City Cemetery, with full military honors.
