Lester Murris Chapman, 81, of Scott City died Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.
He was born April 5, 1927, in Sarasota, Fla., son of Nathan Russell and Agnes Goff Chapman. He and Marjorie Gail Landon were married July 12, 1954. She died Oct. 15, 1993. He and Susie Wells Scott were married May 6, 1995.
Chapman was an engineer with Missouri Pacific Railroad and had been a courtesy clerk at Schnucks.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Michael Campbell of Snohomish, Wash.; three daughters, Michaelle Chapman of Birmingham, Ala., Marsha Stanfield of Penfield, N.Y., Dr. Lynn Marie Chapman of County Galway, Ireland; a stepson, Leroy Gladney of Troy, Mo.; two sisters, Vermel Chapman and Jane Gould of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and six great-stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a stepson.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to service time Sunday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Scott City.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at the chapel, with the Rev. Rennie Phillips officiating.
