CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Lester W. Carlin, 88, of Chaffee died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau. He was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Mediapolis, Iowa, son of Clyde R. and Inez Young Carlin. He and Dallie Irene McCulley were married April 20, 1952, in Kansas. She died April 22, 1983...

CHAFFEE, Mo. -- Lester W. Carlin, 88, of Chaffee died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at St. Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

He was born Nov. 6, 1912, in Mediapolis, Iowa, son of Clyde R. and Inez Young Carlin.

He and Dallie Irene McCulley were married April 20, 1952, in Kansas. She died April 22, 1983.

Carlin was a grader operator for the Grundy County Maintenance Department. He retired in 1974.

He was a corporal in the U.S. Army, serving in World War II and the Korean War. He received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star during World War II.

He was a member of the American Legion of Conrad, Iowa.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Jo Rindels of Bristow, Iowa; one brother, William Carlin of Mesa, Ariz.; one sister, Jennie Kreimeier of Iowa Falls, Iowa; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers.

Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. Thursday at Amick-Burnett Funeral Chapel in Chaffee.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the chapel, with the Rev. Watis Harrell officiating. Burial will be in Friend Cemetery in Oran, Mo.
