Willis "Les" Short, 90, of Cape Girardeau died Friday, Feb. 23, 2001, at the Lutheran Home.

He was born June 18, 1910, at Jackson, Mo., son of Maurice and Kathryn Paul Short. He and Mozella Cobble were married Oct. 28, 1933.

Short worked for the Missouri Highway Department on a surveying crew. He was a school teacher in south St. Louis at John Hancock High School. Later he worked as chief inspector for the Missouri Pacific Railroad on bridges, buildings and scales for 28 years before retiring in 1975.

He had lived in Webster Groves, Mo., for over 50 years. He moved to Woodbridge, Va., in 1996 and just recently moved back to Cape Girardeau County. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Jackson.

Survivors include his wife, of Woodbridge, Va.; two sons, Robert Short of Herndin, Va., and John Short of Woodbridge; a brother, Norman "Hi Power" Short of Kalamazoo, Mich.; two granddaughters; and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.

Friends may call at Cracraft-Miller Chapel in Jackson from 5-8 p.m. today.

Funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the chapel. The Rev. Grant F.C. Gillard will officiate, with burial in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Fruitland, Mo.
